Yay! And welcome to the dark side. You probably know that ducks lay eggs, too. We got a duck egg from a co-worker of DeWitte's last month..they are HUGE! You may or may not be in it for the eggs (prolly not?) but your family will be healthier and you'll save money (50 lbs. of layer feed...about $11! And it lasts forever in a metal trash can mixed with DE and black sunflower seed) Plus..fowl are the opposite. They're awesome.

[this is good] What a hoot!  6 chickens and 2 ducks!  A lady from work brought me a duck egg a few weeks ago - it was GIANT.  I realized I'd never seen one in person.  We cooked it and it was just like any other egg, just about 3 times larger.  Well, congratulations!  You're well on your way to having your own farm.

Hey, I just said that... oh, wait - you just said that.  Dang!

Yeah, we lucked out with the ducks. We had no clue what breed they were until we looked them up. We are pretty sure they are Indian Runners (like Ferdinand in the movie Babe). According to the internets, they are great "garden ducks" as they like to eat all sorts of pests. They can't really fly, so they'll stay in the backyard too. Sure, they are a little goofy looking, but I like an animal that gives me a good laugh. And I'm looking forward to trying duck eggs as they lay, oh, about 365 a year. Eek! I'm going to have to learn to make a lot of egg dishes between my hens and these ducks!

You realize, though, that you'll never be able to try my beloved duck in garlic sauce now.  AND this means I can never meet those ducks because then I would never be able to eat it again.

*sigh*  I want a duckling.

Oh man -- The Beloved would go a little crazy for these guys! :)

I will still eat duck. These are Indian Runner ducks (look 'em up, they are hilarious). Not the kind you eat. They are better for laying eggs. I still intend on going to one of our favorite local restaurants and getting my Espresso Crusted Duck with Cinnamon Seared Fois Gras. Mmmmm.

That sounds good.  Really good, actually.

[this is good] They are so adorable! They look super soft, too. I can't wait to read about your adventures with them. Also, I LOVE the LOST reference with their names -- my favorite couple from the show (with Sun and Jin taking second place).

Hmm, if I can convince Steve that I need 2 more ducks, Sun and Jin would be great names!
